ICARLL

The International Conference on Action Research in Language Learning (ICARLL) 2026 is proudly hosted by the School of Languages, Literacies and Translation, Universiti Sains Malaysia. ICARLL is a scholarly platform dedicated to exploring how action research can serve as a powerful tool to improve and transform language education. Bringing together language teachers, researchers, and education practitioners, the conference provides a dynamic space for sharing classroom-based inquiries, data-driven innovations, and reflective practices that lead to tangible improvements in teaching and learning. This inaugural edition of ICARLL sets the stage for building a collaborative network of action researchers committed to bridging theory and practice in diverse educational settings. Selected conference papers will be considered for publication in peer-reviewed journals, extending the impact of participants’ work beyond the classroom and into the broader academic community.

Theme

The 2026 theme, "Innovating Language Education Through Action Research," highlights the transformative potential of practitioner-led inquiry in shaping future-ready language classrooms. In an era of rapid educational change, this theme invites educators to critically engage with their own teaching contexts, experiment with informed strategies, and use research as a tool for sustainable innovation. By focusing on action research, ICARLL 2026 promotes a reflective, evidence-based approach to improving pedagogy, empowering educators to take ownership of their professional development and student outcomes. This theme also resonates with global priorities such as the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 4 (Quality Education), reinforcing the need for inclusive, equitable, and contextually relevant language education. Participants are encouraged to contribute insights that not only respond to classroom challenges but also inspire systemic change through reflective and collaborative practices.
